Program overview

The Sports, Entertainment & Event Marketing (SEM) program at Seneca is a dynamic graduate certificate designed to prepare students for careers in a multibillion-dollar global industry. This program focuses on the evolving consumer demand for sports, esports, and entertainment, whether in live, virtual, or hybrid formats. Students will learn about the integrated roles of event properties, marketing agencies, and brand sponsors, applying principles of strategic marketing and brand management to develop event properties and experiential marketing campaigns. The program spans a duration of two semesters (8 months) and is offered at the Seneca@York campus.

Program structure

The Sports, Entertainment & Event Marketing program is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of the industry over a period of two semesters (8 months). The program includes:

  • Flexible delivery format, with some courses available online.
  • Optional work term for hands-on experience in the field.
  • Part-time study options available for students seeking flexibility.

Students can choose to participate in a work term, which is similar in length to an academic semester and may be either paid or unpaid. This work term is student-driven, and while it does not guarantee a position, students will receive support through career workshops and coaching to enhance their job search skills. The program is designed to adapt to the needs of students, allowing them to switch between work term and non-work term streams as needed.
