Program Overview

Humber’s Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyle Promotion diploma program is designed to equip students with the skills necessary to promote health and wellness among individuals and groups of all ages. This unique program stands out as the only diploma of its kind in Canada. Throughout the course, students will:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of general and clinical nutrition, as well as sport nutrition and physiology.
  • Acquire hands-on experience by coaching and conducting health promotion seminars and workshops.
  • Learn practical techniques for healthy cooking, food demonstration, recipe development, and menu planning.
  • Assess and analyze menus and recipes while integrating financial, health, and culinary criteria.

This innovative program is grounded in evidence-based nutrition information and is taught by registered dietitians and other regulated health-care professionals, preparing graduates for a rewarding career in the growing health and wellness industry.

Program Structure

The Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyle Promotion diploma program spans 4 semesters, providing a comprehensive education in nutrition and health promotion. The program is structured as follows:

  • Students can start in either January or September.
  • Those starting in January will complete the program in four consecutive semesters without a summer break.
  • Students beginning in September will finish in two academic years, including a summer break after the second semester.
  • There is an online option available for students who prefer a flexible learning environment.

Additionally, the program offers an optional co-operative education component, allowing students to gain practical experience through paid work terms in their field of study. This hands-on approach enhances learning and prepares students for real-world challenges in the health and wellness sector.

  • Field Experience: All students will complete a 14-week field experience, working with external partners and in the on-campus clinic that provides health and wellness services.
