Program Overview

Humber’s Exercise Science and Lifestyle Management graduate certificate program is designed for individuals who have completed an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology, Human Kinetics, or Physical Education. This program provides a comprehensive and practical education that focuses on various aspects of health and fitness, including ergonomic assessment, exercise prescription, fitness assessment, and health promotion. Students will benefit from small group learning led by expert faculty, many of whom are registered kinesiologists actively working in the industry. The curriculum is regularly updated by an advisory committee to ensure it meets current industry standards. Graduates are well-prepared to challenge the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario's entry-to-practice examination and other relevant certifications.

The Exercise Science and Lifestyle Management program spans over 3 semesters and offers a blend of theoretical and practical learning experiences. The program structure includes:

  • Hands-on instruction in various health and fitness domains.
  • Small group learning environments to enhance student engagement.

  • Optional co-operative education opportunities for paid work terms.

  • Three unpaid field experiences, including two on-campus placements and one off-campus placement with industry partners.
  • Hands-on experience in Humber’s North Campus clinic, providing fitness assessments and lifestyle counseling to the community.

  • Access to state-of-the-art facilities, including fitness assessment laboratories and personal training studios.

Graduates of the Exercise Science and Lifestyle Management program can pursue a variety of career opportunities in Canada, including:

  • Exercise Instructor (Clinical): Work with clients to develop and implement exercise programs tailored to their health needs.
  • Exercise Physiologist: Assess and design exercise programs for individuals with chronic diseases or disabilities.
  • Group Exercise Instructor: Lead group fitness classes, motivating participants to achieve their fitness goals.
  • Personal Trainer: Provide one-on-one training sessions, focusing on individual fitness and wellness objectives.
