Program overview

The Double Degree - Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology & Bachelor of Education - Intermediate/Senior program at Lakehead University is designed for students who aspire to combine their passion for health sciences with a career in education. This unique program allows students to earn two degrees simultaneously, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in both fields. The program emphasizes a comprehensive understanding of kinesiology while also preparing students for teaching roles in intermediate and senior education levels. Graduates will be well-prepared to engage in various professional opportunities in health and education sectors.

Program structure

The program is structured as a six-year course of study, which includes a combination of required courses in Kinesiology, Biology, English, Chemistry, and Education. The program is divided into several stages:

  • First Year: Introduction to foundational courses in Kinesiology, Chemistry, English, and Education.
  • Second Year: Continuation of Kinesiology studies along with Biology and Education courses.
  • Third Year: Advanced Kinesiology courses and electives, including Education electives.
  • Fourth Year: Focus on specialized Kinesiology courses and completion of required non-credit courses.
  • Fifth and Sixth Years: Completion of the 2-Year Professional Program in Concurrent Education.

Students are required to maintain a minimum cumulative average of B (70%) in Kinesiology courses and a 65% overall average to graduate. Additionally, students must select two teachable subjects, with Health and Physical Education being the first subject for Kinesiology students.
