Program Overview

The Double Degree - Bachelor Of Physical Education & Bachelor Of Education - Intermediate-Senior (Honours) program is a unique concurrent program offered by the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences and the Faculty of Education. This six-year program is designed for students who aspire to teach at the Intermediate/Senior level (grades 7-12). Students will earn both a Bachelor of Physical Education (BPhEd) (Honours) degree and a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree upon successful completion. The program emphasizes a comprehensive educational experience, combining physical education with pedagogical training, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for a career in teaching.

Program Structure

The Double Degree program is structured to be completed in a six-year timeframe, with students required to register full-time and adhere to a prescribed curriculum. Key aspects of the program structure include:

  • Completion of the first four years of the program is mandatory before entering Year 5.
  • Students must maintain a minimum cumulative overall average of 70% in all undergraduate courses.
  • A second teachable subject must be declared by Year 2, with specific credit requirements.
  • Continuous registration is required within a twelve-month period to retain concurrent education status.
  • Field experience is integrated into the curriculum, particularly in Years 5 and 6.
  • Students may be assigned to either the Burlington or St. Catharines campus for their teacher education courses.

Students are encouraged to take an emergency First Aid/CPR course, and they must complete all program requirements to be recommended for certification by the Ontario College of Teachers.
