The Double Degree - Honours Bachelor of Environmental Science - Biology & Bachelor of Education - Intermediate/Senior program at Lakehead University is designed for students who wish to combine their passion for environmental science with a career in education. This unique program allows students to earn two degrees simultaneously, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to teach at the Intermediate and Senior levels while also gaining a comprehensive understanding of environmental science. The program emphasizes a strong foundation in both disciplines, preparing graduates for diverse career opportunities in education and environmental fields.

Program structure

The Double Degree program spans a total of six years, which includes both undergraduate studies and a professional education component. The structure of the program is as follows:

  • First Year: Introduction to Environmental Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Education courses.
  • Second Year: Advanced Environmental Studies, Geography, and Education courses.
  • Third Year: Further Environmental Studies and Geography electives, along with Education electives.
  • Fourth Year: Specialized Environmental Studies and Geography courses.
  • Fifth and Sixth Years: Completion of the 2-Year Professional Program in Education.

Students are required to choose two teachable subjects and must meet the prerequisites for entry into the professional year. The program also includes opportunities for practical experience through various educational and environmental projects.
