The Bachelor of Science – Cosmetic Science (BSCS) program is the first of its kind in Canada, designed to equip students with essential skills and experience for careers in the cosmetic and personal care industry. This innovative program combines elements of science and art, providing a solid foundation in core sciences such as biology and chemistry, while specializing in cosmetic product formulation. Students will explore various aspects of cosmetic science, including the formulation of skin care and colour cosmetics, and will engage in hands-on experiences with raw materials and colour theory. The curriculum emphasizes equity, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring that students learn to create products that cater to diverse skin tones and conditions. Additionally, the program addresses sustainability in cosmetic manufacturing practices, preparing graduates for a responsible career in the industry.

Program structure

The Bachelor of Science – Cosmetic Science program is structured to be completed in 6 semesters (3 years). The program is offered in a hybrid delivery format, combining online and in-person coursework. Key features of the program structure include:

  • Mandatory Degree Work Term: Students must complete at least one formal work term, which may be paid or unpaid, requiring a minimum of 420 hours of work. This work experience is essential for graduation.
