Academic Requirements

To apply for the Double Degree - Honours Bachelor Of Science - Chemistry & Bachelor Of Education - Primary/Junior program at Lakehead University, students must meet specific academic requirements. The minimum overall final average required for admission is 70%. This average is calculated using the top six Grade 12 U or M courses.

For international students, the following requirements must be fulfilled:

Successful graduation from an academic secondary school program or equivalent, which is generally the same academic preparation required for university entrance in their home country.
Program-specific prerequisite courses must be completed.
International students must achieve the equivalent of a minimum 70% overall final average (Canadian).

It is important to note that transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

For students from Ontario high schools, the following prerequisite courses are required:

Advanced Functions (MHF4U)
Two courses from: Biology (SBI4U), Chemistry (SCH4U), or Physics (SPH4U)

Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate they can cope with the language demands of an English language university and will be required to present proof of English language proficiency. Lakehead University may consider the following as proof of English language proficiency:

To satisfy Lakehead University's English language proficiency requirements, applicants can complete one of the following recognized language tests with the required minimum scores:

Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL) or CAEL CE (Computer Edition) or CAEL Online - Minimum Score: 60
Cambridge Academic English (C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency) - Minimum Score: 176 (no individual score less than 169)
Duolingo English Test - Minimum Score: 120 (no individual sub-score less than 115)
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Minimum Score: 6.5 (no individual score less than 6.0)
Michigan English Test (MET) - Minimum Score: 85
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - Minimum Score: 58 (no component score less than 50)
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - Minimum Score: 80 (no component score less than 19) for Internet Based Test (iBT)

Note: For Nursing, Consecutive Bachelor of Education programs, and the Juris Doctor degree program, applicants must successfully complete one of the recognized tests with the appropriate minimum scores, or have studied 3 years in an English medium, in order to be considered for admission.
