Academic Requirements

For the Double Degree - Honours Bachelor Of Arts - French & Bachelor Of Education - Primary/Junior program, the following academic requirements must be met:

General Admission Requirements:

• Completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.
• A minimum of 6 Grade 12U or M courses, including program-specific prerequisite courses.
• A minimum overall final average of 70%.

Program Specific Prerequisites:

• For Ontario High School Students: English (ENG4U), French (FEF4U, FIF4U, or FSF4U).
• For International Students: English and French.

International Students:

• Successful graduation from an academic secondary school program or equivalent.
• Program-specific prerequisite courses must be completed.
• Equivalent of a minimum 70% overall final average (Canadian).

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate they can cope with the language demands of an English language university and will be required to present proof of English language proficiency. Lakehead University may consider the following as proof of English language proficiency:

1. Language Tests:

To satisfy Lakehead University's English language proficiency requirements, applicants can complete one of the following recognized language tests with the required minimum scores:

• Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL) or CAEL CE (Computer Edition) or CAEL Online - Minimum Score: 60
• Cambridge Academic English (C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency) - Minimum Overall Score: 185 (Listening: 176; Reading & Use of English: 176; Speaking: 185; Writing: 185)
• Duolingo English Test - Minimum Score: 130 (Listening: 15; Reading: 120; Speaking: 130; Writing: 140)
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Minimum Score: 7 (Listening: 6.5; Reading: 6.5; Speaking: 7; Writing: 7 )
• Michigan English Test (MET) - Minimum Score: 90
• Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - Minimum Score: 65 (Listening: 58; Reading: 58; Speaking: 65; Writing: 65)

• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) -5.0 overall (no section below 4.5) *For tests completed as of January 2026
  Minimum Overall Score: 103 (Listening: 24; Reading: 24; Speaking: 28; Writing: 28)

  *For valid tests completed prior to January 2026
   

Note: For Nursing, Consecutive Bachelor of Education programs, and the Juris Doctor degree program, applicants must successfully complete one of the recognized tests with the appropriate minimum scores, or have studied 3 years in an English medium, in order to be considered for admission.
