Academic Requirements

Applicants for the Master of Education (MEd) program at Lakehead University must meet the following Academic Requirements:

Graduates of a recognized university, college, or institute.
Evidence of scholarly achievement.
A four-year bachelor's degree or its equivalent with at least second class standing (B) based on the last 20 half courses or equivalent.
For applicants from countries with a British-patterned grading system, a minimum grade of B, or Second Class, Upper Division, is required.
Applicants holding a degree outside the discipline area must be evaluated based on courses taken and academic standing.
Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

In addition to the general Academic Requirements, the following program-specific requirements apply:

An acceptable three-year or four-year Bachelor's degree and Bachelor of Education or equivalent, each with at least a second class standing (B).
Alternatively, two years of professional experience and a minimum "B" average in a four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Academic references are now optional for the MEd program.
Applicants with an average between 70% and 75% will initially be admitted to the course route, with the option to request a transfer to the portfolio or thesis route.

It is important to note that meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission, as all applicants will be advised by the Office of Graduate Studies in writing of their admission status. For any clarification and support, please contact LOA Portal's advisors.

Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate they can cope with the language demands of an English language university. Lakehead University accepts the following as proof of English language proficiency:

Successful completion of one of the below language tests with the required minimum scores
Successful completion of Lakehead University’s Academic English Program
Successful completion of one of our approved Pathway Partner’s ESL programs
Successful completion of Senior Level English courses
