Program Overview

The Double Degree - Honours Bachelor of Arts - History & Bachelor of Education - Primary/Junior is a unique program offered at Lakehead University, available at both the Thunder Bay and Orillia campuses. This concurrent education degree allows students to earn two degrees simultaneously, providing a comprehensive education in both History and Education. The program is designed for those who aspire to teach at the Primary and Junior levels while gaining a deep understanding of historical contexts and methodologies. Students are encouraged to maintain a strong academic performance throughout their studies to ensure successful progression through the program.

 

Program Structure

The Double Degree program is structured over a period of six years, combining both theoretical and practical components of education and history. The program includes:

  • Entry into the Honours BA program in History after the first, second, or third year, with a requirement of maintaining a 70% average in History courses.
  • Completion of a two-year professional program in Education after the initial four years of study.
  • Courses in History, Education, and electives, with specific requirements for each year of study.
  • Inclusion of Indigenous Content Requirement through designated courses.

Students are advised to include courses in a second language if they intend to pursue graduate studies in History.
