Program structure

The Motive Power Technician - Heavy Duty Equipment program spans a duration of 2 years and is delivered in person at the Cambridge – Reuter Dr. campus. The program structure includes:

Academic Requirements

The admission requirements for the College Diploma - Motive Power Technician - Heavy Duty Equipment (Optional Co-op) program at Conestoga College are as follows:

Minimum Academic Qualifications:

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, or 19 years of age or older with mature student status.
Grade 12 compulsory English, C or U, or equivalent, OR Conestoga College Preparatory Communications (COMM1251).
Grade 12 Mathematics, C or U, or equivalent, OR Conestoga College Preparatory Mathematics for Trades and Apprenticeship (MATH1420).

For international students, the following requirements apply:

Canadian citizens and permanent residents with transcripts from outside Canada require a course-by-course credential evaluation. You can request this at a reduced fee through the college by completing the Assessment of International Credentials for Admissions and Credit Transfer online form, or through an approved provider such as ICAS or WES.
Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Program-Specific Requirements:

Students are required to provide their own CSA-approved footwear (Omega symbol required), safety glasses, and specified hand tools. The College provides all other tools required. The list of required tools is provided to students at the start of the program.
Conestoga College Motive Power coveralls are mandatory in all Motive Power post-secondary programs and will be available at orientation.
Academic eligibility for a co-op work term is based on the term that occurs two terms prior to any work term. Should a student’s academic performance decline considerably (including cumulative missed courses) during the term just prior to any work term, the college reserves the right to withdraw the student from the upcoming work term.
