Confederation College’s Motive Power Techniques – Heavy Equipment certificate program covers all aspects of the heavy-duty service industry. You’ll get hands-on experience maintaining and repairing various heavy-duty systems such as gear trains, electrical/electronics, diesel fuel systems, air brakes, hydraulics, steering, and suspensions on heavy-duty trucks, off-road construction, and forestry equipment. This program not only provides practical training but also includes in-class learning modules that equip you with the mechanical knowledge and workplace skills necessary to thrive in today’s job market.

Academic Requirements

For the Motive Power Techniques - Heavy Equipment program, the following Academic Requirements apply:

Program Requirements (for domestic students):

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent) with courses from the College (C), University (U), University/College (U/C), or Open (O) preparation levels with Grade 12 English (C/U) Level.
or successful completion of the Mature Student Assessment.
or successful completion of the General Education Development Test (GED).
or appropriate credits from the Academic and Career Entrance program (ACE).

Please note that the core subjects run for 4 to 6 week modules.

Program Requirements (for international students):

A high school/senior secondary diploma with a grade 12 math credit. Original transcripts as well as a notarized, translated copy must be provided where applicable.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

All students must possess strong English writing, comprehension, and speaking skills to be successful in their studies, in any workplace components of their program, and in their careers.

Applicants are required to demonstrate proof of English proficiency through completing and submitting the recent (within two years of the start of the program) results of one of the following English proficiency tests:

IELTS Academic: 6.0 (no band lower than 5.5)
TOEFL iBT: 80 (no band less than 20)
PTE-Academic: 54 (no communicative skill lower than 50)
Duolingo: 105 (no band lower than 95)
CAEL: 60 (no band lower than 60)

Confederation College reserves the right to test or retest students whose displayed English proficiency level creates academic or safety issues or does not match the test scores given during the admission process. If there is an apparent inconsistency between online and on-campus test results, students may be removed from their program and be required to complete additional English language training.
