Program Overview

The Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician program at Fleming College is designed to introduce students to the essential skills and knowledge required in the heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning fields. This program emphasizes the importance of renewable, sustainable, and energy-efficient solutions, preparing students for a career in a rapidly evolving industry. With a focus on practical and theoretical skills, students will learn to install, service, maintain, and update various heating and cooling systems. The program is delivered in person at the Sutherland Campus, ensuring hands-on experience and direct interaction with instructors.

Program Structure

The Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician program is structured over a period of three semesters, running continuously for 45 weeks. The program includes:

  • Hands-on training in real-world settings
  • Theoretical coursework covering essential concepts
  • Opportunities to apply for industry certifications after completing practical requirements
  • Focus on renewable energy sources, including geothermal and solar technologies
  • Classes that require a minimum attendance of 80% to qualify for certification exams

Students will have the chance to apply for the Oil Burner Technician – Level 3 (OBT-3) and Gas Technician – Level 3 (G-3) certificates after the first term, and the Oil Burner Technician – Level 2 (OBT-2) and Gas Technician – Level 2 (G-2) certificates after the third term. This structured approach ensures that students are well-prepared for the demands of the industry.
