Program Overview

The Mechanical Technician - General Machinist program at Conestoga College is designed to prepare students for a rewarding career in the precision machining skilled trade. This 2-year diploma program focuses on hands-on skills and knowledge necessary for entry into the manufacturing sector. Students will learn about computer-integrated manufacturing applications, which are essential in today’s technology-driven environment. Program Structure

The Mechanical Technician - General Machinist program is structured to provide a comprehensive education over a period of 2.5 years. The program includes:

  • In-person delivery at the Cambridge – Reuter Dr. campus.
  • Optional co-op stream available for students starting in September, which includes two back-to-back co-op work terms.
  • Academic terms structured as Fall/Winter in Year 1 and Winter/Spring in Year 2 for co-op students.
  • Accelerated delivery for students starting in Spring, with no co-op option available.

This program covers all learning outcomes for Level 1 and Level 2 of the related apprenticeship program in Ontario, ensuring that students are well-prepared for their future careers.
