Program overview

The Mental Health Intervention (MHI) program is an eight-month graduate certificate designed to equip students with specialized knowledge in mental health intervention. This program enhances skills and increases employability in the mental health field. It emphasizes understanding mental health issues while addressing stigma in both personal and professional contexts. Students will explore various theoretical and practical approaches to mental health, including crisis intervention skills and trauma-informed counseling. The program also focuses on holistic and collaborative care planning tailored to individual and family needs.

Program structure

The Mental Health Intervention program is structured to be completed in 2 semesters (8 months). It is offered in a hybrid delivery format, combining online coursework with in-person learning requirements. Key features of the program include:

  • Starts in May and concludes in December.
  • Unique Community Outreach course in the second semester, focusing on innovative practices in mental health.
  • Collaboration with fellow students to develop original modules based on best practices in mental health detection, prevention, and outreach.
  • Engaged professors involved in community and health care research, providing the latest perspectives and interventions.

This program meets the eligibility requirements for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).
