Program Overview

The Nutrition and Food Service Management program at Langara College is designed for individuals aspiring to build a career in food service management, particularly within the health care sector. This accredited diploma program not only prepares students for various roles in food service but also facilitates membership with the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM). Graduates from this program are highly sought after in British Columbia and across Canada, ensuring a promising career path in the field.

Program Structure

The Nutrition and Food Service Management program spans a minimum of 2 years and is offered on a full-time basis. Students have the flexibility to complete the program entirely online or opt for a hybrid model, where they can attend classes in person for up to 50% of the program. The program is structured to include:

  • Core food service management courses
  • Operations and nutrition studies
  • Practicum and fieldwork experiences

Additionally, there are three distinct streams available for students based on their prior experiences and career aspirations:

  • Diploma in Nutrition and Food Service Management - for those aiming to become Food Service Supervisors or Managers.
  • Diploma in Nutrition and Food Service Management (Advanced Standing) - for individuals with a background in nutrition or dietetics.
  • Diploma in Nutrition and Food Service Management (BBA Transfer Option) - currently not available for registration.

Students with relevant experience may also qualify for Prior Learning, Flexible Assessment, and Recognition (PLAR) in certain first-year courses, subject to review by the Department Chair.
