Academic Requirements

To apply for the Honours Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science at Lakehead University, students must meet the following Academic Requirements:

• Minimum GPA: A minimum overall final average of 70% is required. Note that higher averages may be necessary for admission to programs with high demand.
• International Students:
  • Successful graduation from an academic secondary school program or equivalent is required. This means that for most countries, the same academic preparation as is required for university entrance in that country is necessary for consideration.
  • Program specific prerequisite courses must be completed.
  • International students must achieve the equivalent of a minimum 70% overall final average (Canadian).
  • Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.
• Program-Specific Prerequisites:
  • For Ontario High School Students: English (ENG4U), and one from Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Calculus & Vectors (MCV4U), or Data Management (MDM4U).
  • For International Students: English and Math are required.

Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate they can cope with the language demands of an English language university. To meet the English language requirements for undergraduate programs at Lakehead University, applicants can fulfill this by completing a certain number of years of study at a school where English is the language of instruction:

• University Level: One year of full-time undergraduate/graduate-level study at a university where English is the language of instruction in a country where English is the official language.
• College Level: Two years of full-time diploma level study at a college where English is the language of instruction in a country where English is the official language.
• High School Level: Three years of full-time study at a high school where English is the language of instruction. English does not need to be the official language of the country.

Applicants who cannot verify having recently studied in an English language school system as outlined above will be required to present proof of English language proficiency. Lakehead University accepts the following as proof of English language proficiency:

1. Successful completion of one of the below language tests with the required minimum scores
2. Successful completion of Lakehead University’s Academic English Program
3. Successful completion of one of our approved Pathway Partner’s ESL programs
4. Successful completion of Senior Level English courses
