Program overview

The Bachelor of Science in General Science at Lakehead University offers a multidisciplinary education that allows students the freedom to explore various scientific interests. This program is designed for those who wish to gain a broad understanding of science before potentially specializing in a specific major. With access to ten different departments, students can tailor their education to fit their passions and career aspirations. The program emphasizes flexibility, enabling students to transition into specific majors at any point during their undergraduate studies.

Program structure

The Bachelor of Science in General Science program is structured to provide a comprehensive educational experience over a three-year period. Students will complete a total of 15 courses to earn their degree, with a focus on the following:

  • Flexibility in course selection, allowing students to choose from various scientific disciplines.
  • Five credits must be taken within the Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies, including subjects like Chemistry, Biology, and Physics.
  • Students can take no more than four courses outside the Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, or Faculty of Education if pursuing a joint Native Education degree.
  • Opportunities to participate in Science Outreach Programs, such as Science Olympics and Faculty Speaker Series.
