Step into a fulfilling, in-demand profession with Humber’s Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate program. Gain the hands-on skills, confidence, and compassion needed to support individuals in long-term care, hospitals, home care, and community health settings. Now more accessible than ever, the program is offered at three locations – North Campus, Lakeshore Campus, and the new Humber Heights Living Classroom. Whether you’re starting your health-care journey or expanding your existing skills, Humber provides the flexibility to learn where it works best for you.

 

Through practical, experience-based learning and expert instruction, you’ll develop the knowledge to safely assist with personal care, mobility, and household management for individuals across the lifespan. You’ll also learn to recognize and respond to the physical and emotional changes associated with aging and illness, helping clients maximize their independence.

Program Structure

The Personal Support Worker program is designed to be completed in 2 semesters. Students can start their studies in January, May, or September, with each intake allowing for a structured timeline to complete the program. The program is available in both in-person and online formats, providing flexibility to accommodate different learning preferences.

  • Field Experience: Students participate in 300 hours of field experience, including two unpaid rotations in long-term care and community agencies.
  • Simulation Learning Labs: Practical skills are developed in simulation labs, allowing students to practice in a controlled environment.
  • Living Classroom: A partnership with Schlegel Villages provides students with real-world learning experiences alongside seasoned professionals.
  • Interprofessional Education: Opportunities to learn with students from other health disciplines, fostering teamwork and collaboration.
