The Honours Bachelor of Creative and Professional Writing program helps you transform your passion for writing into a fulfilling career. As you develop creative writing skills that stimulate your imagination and storytelling abilities, you learn to write clearly and convincingly across evolving genres, platforms, and venues. Practise your craft independently and collaboratively in a variety of settings, from the traditional classroom experience to the creative writing workshop. In your final semester, benefit from one-on-one mentorship through our Capstone Manuscript course, where you develop a project with the guidance of an author.

Program Structure

The Bachelor of Creative and Professional Writing program is designed to provide a comprehensive education in writing over a period of 8 semesters. The program includes various learning formats, such as:

Academic Requirements

To be eligible for the Bachelor of Creative and Professional Writing (CP411) program, applicants must meet the following academic requirements:

International students, particularly those from Vietnam and other Asian countries, should be aware of the following:

Possess the equivalent of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
Complete the required courses as specified on the program's webpage.
For international academic equivalencies, an Upper Secondary School Certificate with a minimum grade of 7 in program required subjects is necessary.
Transcripts for any post-secondary courses or programs completed may also be required.

Additionally, please note that transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

If English isn’t your first language or if you studied in another language, you must show proof of English proficiency through an approved evaluation. You can demonstrate your English proficiency by completing and submitting the results of ONE of the following evaluation methods:

For any program level other than Master's degrees, a minimum of one year of full-time study at the secondary school level in an English language school system in a country where English is considered the primary language, or the primary language of instruction and evaluation is English, with acceptable grades in all English courses.
For any program level, a minimum of one full year of successful study in an accredited university or college degree program or one full year of successful study in an accredited college diploma program in a country OR in a post-secondary institution where English is the primary language of instruction.
English proficiency test scores from one of the international English language testing bodies listed below. Tests taken within the last 24 months are considered valid for academic programs. Tests taken for placement into English for Academic Purposes (EAP) are considered valid within the last 24 months. Please refer to the minimum English proficiency test scores below:
