Program Overview

Humber’s General Arts and Science – English for Academic Purposes (EAP) certificate program is an intensive, full-time academic pathway designed for English language learners. The curriculum aims to enhance language competence and fluency in writing, communication, and critical thinking skills, preparing students for entry into various college diploma, degree, and graduate certificate programs. The program emphasizes communicative academic English, integrating receptive skills like listening and reading with productive skills such as speaking and writing. Students will benefit from innovative language study techniques and personalized tutoring support, ensuring they achieve their language goals effectively.

Program Structure

The General Arts and Science - English for Academic Purposes program is structured as follows:

  • Program Length: 2 semesters, each lasting 14 weeks.
  • Students will engage in 24 hours per week of in-class and online instruction.
  • Weekly practice sessions of 3 hours focusing on computer-assisted language learning (CALL) activities.
  • Placement in either one or two semesters is determined by initial English proficiency test results.
  • Online option available for flexible learning.

This program is designed to support students in improving their language skills while familiarizing them with Humber's academic environment, faculty, and campus life.
