Program Overview

The University Transfer – Engineering program at Vancouver Community College (VCC) is a smart starting point for students who want to pursue an engineering degree in a flexible, supportive, and cost-effective environment. This program allows students to complete their first year of foundational engineering courses at VCC before transferring to second year at top universities like UBC, SFU, UVic, TRU, or UNBC.
The program focuses on developing key skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, academic writing, teamwork, and communication in a technical setting. Students receive close guidance and benefit from a small-class learning environment, making it easier to succeed and smoothly transition to larger university systems.

Program Length: 1 year full-time (or up to 3 years part-time)
Credential: University Transfer Certificate – Engineering

Program Structure

This flexible program can be completed in 1 year full-time, or extended up to 3 years part-time. Students study core engineering courses including:

  • Advanced math (calculus, linear algebra)
  • General physics and chemistry
  • Technical writing and communication
  • Computer programming
  • Engineering graphics and design

VCC offers two transfer pathways:

  • Track A – A guaranteed transfer to SFU’s Engineering Science program (within 16 months, minimum GPA of 2.75)
  • Track B – Competitive transfer to UBC, UVic, TRU, UNBC and other institutions

Classes combine lectures with hands-on lab sessions, giving students both academic preparation and practical skills for future studies.
