Academic Requirements

To apply for the University Diploma in Chemical Engineering with a transfer to Dalhousie University Bachelor of Engineering program, students must meet the following Academic Requirements:

Students must be in good academic standing at their current or previous institution.
General admissions requirements must be met, which can be found under the Canadian or International tabs.
For international students, the following specific requirements apply:
- Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.
- Students must have completed the equivalent of the following high school courses:

Language Requirements

Cape Breton University accepts various English language proficiency tests. Below are the accepted tests along with their respective minimum score requirements:

TOEFL iBT (and iBT Home Edition): minimum overall score of 80 with no score below 20.
IELTS Academic (and IELTS Indicator): minimum overall score of 6.5 with no band below 6.0.
CAEL: minimum score of 60.
MELAB: minimum score of 85.
Pearson PTE (Academic): minimum overall score of 59 with no score below 50.
CanTEST: minimum score of 4.5 (reading & listening) and 4.0 (writing).
Duolingo English Test: minimum score of 120 with no score below 105 for undergraduate programs, diplomas, and certificates. Minimum score of 125 with no score below 110 for Master of Business Administration, Bachelor of Education, and Post-baccalaureate diplomas.

Official test scores should be included with your application or sent directly to Cape Breton University from the testing language body.

If you have completed at least two years in a secondary school or have completed at least 30 credit hours at a post-secondary institution where English is the primary language of instruction, you may be exempt from submitting a language score. However, official documentation will be required to confirm this.

Please note: If you meet the English Proficiency Exemption and submit a language score that falls below the minimum requirements, your application will be deemed inadmissible.
