Program Overview

The University Transfer – Computing Science and Software Systems certificate at Vancouver Community College (VCC) allows students to complete the first-year equivalent in computing and software systems within a smaller college environment, and then transfer to university. The program emphasizes critical thinking, programming, mathematics, and quantitative methods, with strong support from dedicated instructors. It’s particularly suitable for students planning to pursue majors like software systems or computing science, and seeking pathways to universities such as Simon Fraser University (SFU) or the University of British Columbia (UBC)

Students can choose between several transfer options tailored to their post-secondary goals:

  • Assured transfer to SFU Software Systems pathway (must complete in 16 months with GPA requirements)
  • Competitive transfer to SFU Software Systems (max 3 years)
  • Transfer to UBC BSc or BA in Computer Science (competitive admission)
  • Program length: 16 months full‑time to complete within assured pathway; up to 3 years for competitive options.

This full‑time program delivers approximately first-year university credits over several terms with a blend of lectures, labs, and applied computing experiences
