Program Overview

The Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Honours) program at UBC's Vancouver campus focuses on the sciences behind drug discovery and development. Students will delve into various areas such as pharmacology, formulations, nanomedicine, diagnostics, and analytical chemistry. Program Structure

The Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences program is designed to be completed in 4 years. It offers students the flexibility to choose from different streams, allowing for a tailored educational experience. Key features of the program structure include:

  • General Studies: Focus exclusively on coursework.
  • Research Focus: Complete a research project or practicum in the fourth year.
  • Honours with Research Focus: Complete a research project or practicum in the fourth year, plus an additional 12 credits of coursework.

While there is no co-op option, students can combine their studies with full-time, paid work at leading local and international organizations. The program emphasizes experiential learning, with opportunities for practicums and research projects that provide hands-on experience in real-world settings.

  • Practicums: Successful applicants can gain hands-on experience by being placed with government organizations or industrial partners for one term, earning 15 credits toward their degree.
  • Research Projects: Students can work on research projects with faculty members, also earning 15 credits toward their degree.
  • State-of-the-Art Laboratories: Access to high-end research equipment, including ultra-high-pressure liquid chromatography (UHPLC) mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.
