Program overview

The Civil Engineering Technician (CVL) program is a two-year diploma course designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge needed for a successful career in civil engineering. Throughout the program, students will engage in practical, hands-on learning experiences that cover various aspects of civil engineering, including computer drafting, municipal and building practices, material testing, and field surveying. This program is accredited by Technology Accreditation Canada (TAC) and offers a pathway to further studies in the Civil Engineering Technology program upon meeting specific academic requirements.

Program structure

The Civil Engineering Technician program is structured to provide a comprehensive education over a duration of 4 semesters (2 years). The program is delivered in a hybrid format, combining both online and in-person learning experiences. Key features of the program structure include:

  • Starts in January, May, and September
  • Optional co-op work term for hands-on experience
  • Experiential learning through indoor and outdoor lab-based subjects
  • Use of industry-standard health and safety equipment
  • Flexibility to transfer between co-op and non-co-op streams

Students will be required to complete in-person learning requirements on campus, ensuring they gain practical experience in a real-world setting.
