Program Overview

The Mental Health and Disability Management program at Mohawk College is an Ontario College Graduate Certificate designed to equip students with the skills necessary to support clients with dual diagnoses throughout their lifespan. This innovative program is the first of its kind in Ontario, focusing on the intersection of mental health and disability management. Students will engage in a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application, preparing them to implement effective intervention strategies and conduct research in the field.

Program Structure

The Mental Health and Disability Management program spans a three-semester (40-week) duration, with classes held in the evenings. The program is delivered in a blended format, combining online and in-person learning experiences. Here’s a brief overview of the program structure:

  • Semester 1: Focus on mental health and disability separately, with classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
  • Semester 2: Exploration of complex conditions related to dual diagnoses, with classes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
  • Semester 3: In-person, unpaid field placement to gain hands-on experience.

This program also offers flexible learning options, allowing students to tailor their educational experience to fit their needs. Students will have the opportunity to engage in simulation exercises and develop knowledge translation skills, preparing them to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
