Program Overview

The Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant program at Mohawk College is designed to prepare students for a rewarding career in healthcare. This program emphasizes a client-centered approach, equipping students with the essential knowledge and skills to support individuals with movement limitations and daily functional challenges. With a focus on inter-professional collaboration, students will learn from both occupational therapy and physiotherapy faculty, as well as industry experts. The program is accredited by the Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant Education Accreditation Program, ensuring that graduates meet the high standards required in the field.

Program Structure

The Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant program spans a duration of two academic years. The structure of the program includes:

  • Inter-professional course delivery with collaborative teaching from OT and PT faculty.
  • A blend of learning environments, including virtual classrooms, in-person labs, and clinical fieldwork placements.
  • Opportunities for further education and degree transfers to partnering institutions.

Students will engage in hands-on learning through dedicated skills labs, field trips, and a capstone project. Additionally, the program includes 562.5 hours of unpaid clinical placement experience in various healthcare settings across Ontario, allowing students to apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios. Pre-clinical requirements, such as a clear Police Records Check for Service with the Vulnerable Sector, are mandatory before participating in clinical placements.
