The General Arts – English for Academic Purposes (GEA) program is an eight-month certificate course designed to enhance your English language skills. This program focuses on improving your writing, reading, speaking, and listening abilities, utilizing technology to support your learning. It is ideal for individuals whose first language is not English or those who have completed less than four years of schooling in an English-speaking secondary school. Graduates of this program can either pursue further studies in diploma programs at Seneca or enter the workforce directly.

Program structure

The General Arts – English for Academic Purposes program is structured to provide a comprehensive learning experience over a duration of 2 semesters (8 months). The program is available in various formats to accommodate different learning preferences:

  • Online delivery
  • Hybrid delivery (combination of online and in-person classes at Newnham Campus)

Students opting for the hybrid format will need to attend in-person sessions to fulfill certain course requirements. This flexibility allows students to choose the mode of study that best fits their lifestyle and learning needs. Additionally, the program meets the eligibility requirements for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), providing international students with opportunities to work in Canada after graduation.
