Academic Requirements

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) at Brock University is a four-year honours degree program. For international students, admission is competitive and based on both academic achievement and completion of specific prerequisite courses.

To apply, you must hold a senior secondary school diploma or equivalent that qualifies you for university study in your home country. Brock specifically looks for courses equivalent to Ontario Grade 12 “U” level subjects. The required prerequisites are:

English (ENG4U or equivalent)

Biology (SBI4U or equivalent)

Chemistry (SCH4U or equivalent)

One additional Grade 12 U-level Mathematics course

Each of these prerequisite courses must be completed with a minimum grade of 75%, and applicants are expected to have an overall admission average in the mid-80s range to be competitive. While Brock may consider lower averages, the Nursing program is highly competitive and typically admits students well above the minimum.

If English is not the language of instruction in your most recent studies, you must provide proof of English proficiency through an approved test such as IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE. Brock University accepts a range of recognized language tests and requires official results sent directly from the testing agency.

In addition to grades, international students must submit official transcripts and, if requested, course descriptions or syllabi to verify equivalency of the prerequisite subjects.

Finally, note that meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission — the BScN program has limited enrolment, and offers are made to the most competitive applicants each year.

Language Requirements

To gain admission to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at York University, applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency by presenting a minimum score on an accepted language test. The following English language tests are accepted:

• TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): iBT score of 94
• IELTS (International English Language Testing Service, Academic Module): score of 7.0
• Pearson PTE Academic: score of 67
• Duolingo: score of 130
• Cambridge English Language Assessment (CAE, CPE): C1 Advanced with no score below 193
• Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL): score of 67

It is important to note that the IELTS Academic test is specifically required for admission to York University, and the General IELTS will not be accepted for language proficiency requirements.

Please note: English proficiency tests are valid for a period of two years. If you have completed your studies in an English-speaking environment, you may not be required to submit proof of English proficiency. Please check with our team for more details.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.For students from Vietnam, the required document is the Bằng Tốt Nghiệp Trung Học Phổ Thông (Senior School Graduation Certificate).
