Program Overview

Do you have a passion for healthy, active lifestyles and a desire to shape those interests into a rewarding career? VIU’s Recreation and Sport Management program can help you launch a career in the growing sport, recreation, health, and wellness industries. This program emphasizes hands-on exploration under the guidance of dedicated instructors who care about your success. With a focus on community engagement, students will work closely with peers and instructors on meaningful projects, preparing them for a variety of careers that promote positivity and confidence in sport and community for individuals of all ages.

Program Structure

The Recreation and Sport Management Diploma Program is structured as a mandatory Co-operative Education format, consisting of:

  • Program Length: 2 Years
  • Credits: 62 credits total
  • Co-op Options: Two paid Co-op placements
  • Academic Semesters: Four academic semesters

This program focuses on providing recreation and sport services and products across public, private, and not-for-profit sectors. Students will gain applied skills and knowledge, direct leadership experience, and benefit from small class sizes. The program prepares students for immediate career entry, while also allowing those interested in further studies to apply to the third year of VIU’s Bachelor of Tourism Management, Major in Recreation.
