Program Overview

The Master of Science in Computer Science (MSc) at Lakehead University is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and skills in the rapidly evolving field of computer science. Program Structure

The Master of Science in Computer Science program at Lakehead University offers three distinct options for students:

  • Master’s by Course: A one-year program focused on coursework aligned with IT industry requirements.
  • Master's by Project: A two-year program that includes coursework and a limited research project, also aligned with industry needs.
  • Master's by Thesis: A two-year program that requires fewer courses and involves a substantial research project.

Students can also choose to specialize in Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the thesis-based program. The program is structured to be completed within a maximum of two years of continuous registration. For those opting for the co-operative program, students must complete an 8-month co-op placement after two terms of study, which will extend the program duration accordingly.
