Program overview

The Master of Science in Computer Science with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence at Lakehead University is designed for students who wish to delve into advanced knowledge and research in the field of computer science. This program emphasizes core AI techniques, enabling students to apply and select appropriate algorithms across various industrial sectors. The curriculum covers essential topics such as deep learning, natural language processing, machine learning, and image processing. Students will also develop an ethical awareness related to AI applications, preparing them for the challenges and responsibilities in this rapidly evolving field.

Program structure

The Master of Science in Computer Science - Artificial Intelligence program is structured to provide a comprehensive educational experience over a two-year period. The program offers three distinct options:

  • Master’s by Course: A one-year program focused on courses aligned with IT industry requirements.
  • Master's by Project: A two-year program that includes courses and a limited research project.
  • Master's by Thesis: A two-year program requiring fewer courses and a substantial research project.

Students in the Project and Thesis options may also have the opportunity to participate in a co-op placement, which provides valuable industrial experience. However, it is important to note that the AI specialization is not eligible for the Co-operative Option. All students must complete their program requirements within six terms (two years) of continuous registration.
