Humber Polytechnic's Comedy: Writing and Performance program is a dynamic three-semester diploma program designed to immerse students in the world of comedy. Over the course of a single year, students will learn the art of humor both behind the scenes and in front of the camera. The program is hosted in Humber’s state-of-the-art Cultural Hub, a cutting-edge teaching and performance space. Students will engage in intensive studio learning, followed by opportunities to produce varied performances. A highlight of the program includes weekly stand-up performances at YukYuk's Comedy Club in Toronto. The curriculum covers acting, improvisation, and writing, while also focusing on creating social media comedy content for platforms like TikTok and YouTube. Collaborations with other programs and master classes with guest artists enhance this unique comedy experience.

Program Structure

The Comedy: Writing and Performance program spans 3 semesters, providing a comprehensive education in comedic arts. The structure of the program includes:

  • Intensive studio learning in the first ten weeks of each semester.
  • Four weeks dedicated to producing varied performances.
  • Weekly stand-up performances at YukYuk's Comedy Club.
  • Collaborative projects with other programs in the Faculty of Media, Creative Arts, and Design.
  • Master classes with international guest artists and comedians-in-residence.

This program also offers an optional co-operative education component, allowing students to gain practical experience through paid work terms in their field of study. The combination of classroom learning and real-world application prepares students for a successful career in comedy.
