Business Information Technology Management (Analytics Data Management Option)

Academic Requirements

For the Business Information Technology Management (Analytics Data Management Option) program, the following academic requirements apply:

International Applicants:

• This program is available to international applicants.
• Study Permit: A valid BCIT study permit is required prior to starting the program.
• Students enrolled in this program must complete the mandatory work component to qualify for graduation. A co-op work permit is required prior to starting the work component.
• Post-graduation Work Permit (PGWP) eligibility: This program currently meets the eligible field of study requirement (CIP) and is eligible for students to apply for a PGWP. Students are responsible for meeting all Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) PGWP eligibility requirements. Final PGWP approval is at the discretion of IRCC.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Prerequisite Courses:

• BABI 3000 - Data Quality Approaches for Business:
  • Prerequisites: 50% in BSYS 2000 and successful completion of Year 1 in the BITMAN program.
• BABI 3005 - Data Governance for Business Analytics:
  • No prerequisites are required for this course.
• BSYS 3000 - Cloud Business Development 1:
  • Prerequisite: BSYS 2065.
• BSYS 3205 - Business Intelligence 1:
  • Prerequisite: BSYS 2000.
• BSYS 3355 - Management Information Systems:
  • Prerequisite: BSYS 2065.
• FMGT 3221 - Management Accounting Administration:
  • Prerequisites: FMGT 2100 or FMGT 2152.
• OPMT 3301 - Quantitative Methods for Business:
  • Prerequisite: OPMT 1197 or an equivalent college level Business Stats course.
• BABI 4000 - Applied Data Management for Analytics:
  • Prerequisite: 50% in BABI 3000.
• BABI 4005 - DQM with Python:
  • Prerequisite: 50% in BABI 3005.
• BLAW 3600 - Computers and the Law:
  • No prerequisites are required for this course.
• BSYS 4000 - Cloud Business Development 2:
  • Prerequisite: BSYS 3000.
• BSYS 4905 - Directed Studies:
  • Prerequisite: Successful completion of Levels 1, 2 and 3 courses (may be short one Level 3 course).
• BUSA 4800 - Management Policy:
  • Prerequisites: 50% in BUSA 2005 or 50% in BUSA 2100.
• FMGT 4530 - Enterprise Finance:
  • Prerequisite: FMGT 2152.
• OPMT 4170 - Applied Project Management:
  • Prerequisite: OPMT 1170.

Language Requirements

English is the language used for instruction and communication at BCIT. All applicants and registrants, regardless of their citizenship status or country of origin, must demonstrate a satisfactory level of English proficiency. This proficiency requirement ensures that all students have the necessary language skills to succeed in their chosen courses and programs. The assessment of English Language Proficiency (ELP) is based on the categories listed below.

If your program requires Category 1, you must meet at least one of the English Language Proficiency assessments listed below:

• English Studies 12 or English First People 12 or Acceptable equivalent high school course - 73%
• BCIT English Competency Assessment: COMM 0015 and COMM 0033 - 80%
• COMM 1009 - Technical Writing: Definitions, Instructions and Process Descriptions - 73%
• COMM 1103 - Introduction to Business and Technical Communication - 73%
• COMM 1106 - Introduction to Business and Technical Communication (With Language Development Component) - 73%
• BCIT Professional English Language Development (PELD): COMM 0030 and COMM 0005 - 80%
• COMM 0007 and COMM 0016 - 73%
• BCIT Technical Academic English (TAE) 5 - 70%
• Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Test - 80 overall band score with no component below 70
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Overall score 7, No band less than 6.0
• Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - Overall score 65, No skill score less than 60
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) - Overall score 90, No section score less than 20

If your program requires Category 2, you must meet at least one of the English Language Proficiency assessments listed below:

• English Studies 12 or English First People 12 or Acceptable equivalent high school course - 67%
• BCIT English Competency Assessment: COMM 0015 and COMM 0033 - 70%
• COMM 1009 - Technical Writing: Definitions, Instructions and Process Descriptions - 67%
• COMM 1106 - Introduction to Business and Technical Communication (With Language Development Component) - 67%
• BCIT Professional English Language Development (PELD): COMM 0030 and COMM 0005 - 70%
• COMM 0007 and COMM 0016 - 67%
• BCIT Technical Academic English (TAE) 5 - 60%
• Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Test - 70 overall band score with no component below 60
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Overall score 6.5, No band less than 5.5
• Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - Overall score 60, No skill score less than 60
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) - Overall score 86, No section score less than 20
