Program overview
The Practical Nursing program at St. Lawrence College prepares graduates to practice in accordance with the Entry to Practice Competencies and Standards of Practice set by the College of Nurses of Ontario. Upon successful completion, graduates are eligible to write the national registration exam, allowing them to become Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) in Ontario and qualify for reciprocal registration in other provinces across Canada. This program is designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the nursing field, ensuring they are well-prepared for their future careers.
Program structure
The Practical Nursing program is structured to provide a comprehensive education over a 2 extended year period, delivered in a full-time format. The program includes:
- 5 full-time semesters
- Hands-on simulated learning experiences in a simulation lab
- Clinical placements in various healthcare settings, including a 400-hour clinical consolidation placement in the final semester
- Eligibility to write the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Registration Exam upon graduation
This structure ensures that students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, preparing them for the demands of the nursing profession.
