Program overview

The Social Service Worker – Gerontology (SSWG) program is designed to address the growing need for trained professionals in the field of gerontology, as the aging population in Canada continues to rise. This two-year diploma program equips students with the essential knowledge, professional values, and skills necessary to support older adults in maintaining their independence and quality of life. The curriculum emphasizes a holistic, strength-based approach, integrating a biopsychosocial model and anti-oppressive framework. Students will engage in personal reflection and growth, applying professional ethics and classroom learnings to real-world scenarios, while also participating in field placements to develop interpersonal communication skills.

Program structure

The Social Service Worker – Gerontology (SSWG) program is structured over a duration of 4 semesters (2 years), with an option for students starting in January to complete the program in just 1.5 years, as it runs consecutively through the summer.
