Sheridan’s Social Service Worker – Gerontology program is designed to equip students with the essential skills and expertise needed for a rewarding career working with older adults. As the demand for social service workers focusing on gerontology continues to grow due to the increasing senior population in Canada, this program provides a comprehensive education that addresses societal needs. Students will learn the foundations of social service work while specializing in the unique challenges and opportunities associated with aging populations. Program Structure

The Social Service Worker – Gerontology program is structured to be completed in 2 years, with a focus on both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. The program includes:

  • Field practicums in Semesters 2, 3, and 4, where students work with seniors two days a week.
  • Hands-on learning opportunities that allow students to apply classroom lessons in real-world settings.
  • Access to a unique partnership with the Sheridan Centre for Elder Research, integrating research into the curriculum.
  • Eligibility for professional registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers upon graduation.
