Program Overview

Humber’s Social Service Worker diploma program is designed to equip students with the skills necessary to assist individuals, families, and communities in a professional capacity. This two-year diploma includes a significant component of 600 hours of field placement, allowing students to gain practical experience in real-world settings. The program emphasizes an anti-oppressive and strength-based approach, focusing on empowering and advocating for clients to help them achieve their goals and access essential services. Students will learn to navigate systemic barriers that hinder access to social and economic resources, preparing them to work effectively with diverse populations facing various challenges, including poverty, mental health issues, and trauma.

  • Part-Time Option: The program is also available on a part-time basis, accommodating students with varying schedules.
  • Winter Accelerated Schedule: For those starting in January, the program operates on an accelerated timeline, allowing students to graduate in the following Spring.
  • Online Learning: An online option is available, providing flexibility for students who prefer remote learning.

This structure ensures that students not only gain theoretical knowledge but also practical skills through hands-on experience in the field.
