Program overview

The Master of Design (MDes) in Inclusive Design at OCAD University is designed to empower students to leverage digital technologies in creating inclusive policies, services, products, and solutions that cater to everyone. This program emphasizes breaking through societal barriers and addressing the growing demand for access and inclusion. Students will explore equity and access issues through a human-centered design approach, utilizing inclusive digital technologies. The program is available in both online and in-person formats, allowing students the flexibility to choose their preferred learning environment.

Program structure

The Master of Design in Inclusive Design is structured to provide a comprehensive educational experience over a 2-year period. The program includes:

  • Foundation courses
  • Theory courses
  • A research methods course
  • A laboratory stream

These components converge to support a culminating Major Research Project (MRP). Additionally, students will participate in a colloquium session in their second year, which is open to the public, and a culminating festival and graduate symposium. The program employs a hybrid teaching model that supports both online and in-person learning, incorporating group projects, online discussion forums, and contributions from guest experts in the field of inclusive design.
