Program Overview
The Honours Bachelor of Social Work (One Year) program at Lakehead University is tailored for students who have already completed an undergraduate degree in another field. The program is designed to deliver the essential course content of the professional years of the HBSW program within a compressed timeframe of just 12 months.
Program Structure
The One Year HBSW program is structured to provide a comprehensive educational experience over a full-time, 12-month period. Here’s a brief overview of the program structure:
- July to early September: Students attend classes for three full academic courses, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
- September to December: Focus on academic coursework.
- January to April: Students engage in a 4-day per week field practicum, with one day dedicated to coursework.
- April to July: Students continue with a 5-day per week field placement.
The program includes a 100-day field placement under the mentorship of a qualified Social Worker, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. Students will also participate in field integration seminars during the winter term. It is important to note that a criminal reference/vulnerable sector check is required before starting the field practicum.
