Program Overview

The Mechanical Engineering Bridge to UBC program is designed to facilitate access to the third year of Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia Vancouver (UBC V) or University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBC O). This program is ideal for students who have completed a technology diploma and are looking to advance their education in engineering. The program combines rigorous academic training with practical skills, preparing students for a successful transition into the engineering field. It is a unique opportunity that allows students to build on their existing knowledge and experience, ultimately leading to a rewarding career in mechanical engineering.

Program Structure

The Mechanical Engineering Bridge program is structured to provide a comprehensive educational experience over a period of 8 months. The program consists of two academic terms, starting in September and concluding at the end of May. Key features of the program structure include:

  • Full-time study options available.
  • Classes are scheduled for approximately 25-28 hours per week.
  • Homework commitments typically require about three to four hours per day.
  • An optional internship work term is available from May through August.
  • Students will alternate between full-time studies and full-time paid work through co-op opportunities.

This program is designed for graduates of technology diplomas, particularly those from Camosun College, but is open to all graduates from accredited Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (CTAB) programs. The rigorous nature of the program ensures that students are well-prepared for their future studies and careers in engineering.
