Program Overview

Join science with technology to build the world around you! The Civil Engineering Technician program at Cambrian College equips students with the essential skills needed to become integral members of civil engineering teams. These teams are responsible for the design, construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of vital infrastructure. Students will focus on improving various structures such as roads, bridges, buildings, dams, and water systems while applying sustainability practices.

Hands-on experience is a key component of this program, with training in design and drafting using advanced Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) technology. Students will also work with state-of-the-art electronic survey equipment and learn about Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) scanning. A compulsory two-week surveying field camp at the end of the second semester provides valuable work-integrated learning experience.

The Civil Engineering Technician program is designed to be completed in 4 semesters over 2 years. The program is delivered on-campus and is full-time, ensuring that students receive a comprehensive education in civil engineering technology.

Academic Requirements

To apply for the Civil Engineering Technician program, students must meet the following Academic Requirements:

Graduates of the new curriculum (OSS): Ontario Secondary School Diploma (30 credits) or equivalent or mature student status, including:
- Any grade 12 English (C) or (U)
- Any grade 12 mathematics (C) or (U) (MCT4C is highly recommended)

For international students, additional requirements may apply. It is recommended to contact LOA Portal's advisors for any clarification and support regarding these requirements.

Additionally, the following courses are recommended for prospective students:

Any grade 12 physics (C), (U)
Computer competency in relevant software

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to ensure their place in the program.

Language Requirements

The language of instruction for all our programs is English. You must have sufficient English language skills and experience to fully participate in classroom lectures, assignments, discussions, and examinations.

We assess international applications on an individual basis. All general and specific program requirements must be met, including senior-level English credits.

If you need to improve your English skills, you can apply for our English for Academic Purposes program. Once you complete the program, you will be accepted into our diploma or certificate programs.
