Welcome to the Mining Engineering Technician program at Cambrian College! This unique program is based in Sudbury, one of the world's leading nickel mining capitals. It offers an Ontario College Advanced Diploma and is the only program of its kind in Ontario. Guided by industry-experienced faculty, students will gain a solid foundation and hands-on experience essential for becoming a vital part of underground or open-pit mine engineering teams globally. The curriculum covers a wide range of projects, including surveying, geological and geotechnical fieldwork, project management, and mine safety. Graduates will be well-prepared to enter the mining industry with a skill set that is highly valued.
Program Structure
The Mining Engineering Technician program is structured over 6 semesters, spanning 3 years of full-time study. Here’s a brief overview of the program structure:
- Common first and second year with Cambrian’s Mining Engineering Technician program.
- Advanced courses in the third year focusing on project management and technical reports.
- A 14-week co-op placement in the final semester, providing real-world experience.
- Field trips to mine sites and/or mining suppliers when available.
- Accredited by Technology Accreditation Canada (TAC) and recognized by the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).
