Learn in state-of-the-art facilities. The two-year Cabinetmaking and Furniture Technician Ontario College Diploma program, compressed in a 42-week format, prepares you with the skills and techniques necessary to get started in the industry. This program is a highly intensive but rewarding journey for those seeking a hands-on career in the cabinetmaking and woodworking industry. All classes take place at the Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence, where students use modern industry-standard equipment and tools. You learn both traditional joinery and advanced technology used in the industry today.

 

Upon successful completion of this program, graduates may find careers in many sectors of the cabinetmaking and woodworking industry, including:

  • Furniture and cabinetmaking
  • Furniture refinishing and restoration
  • Kitchen and commercial cabinetry

 

You may also seek employment as a furniture, tools and/or hardware salesperson, or pursue self-employment opportunities. Graduates may also seek an apprenticeship in the trade.

Program structure

The Cabinetmaking and Furniture Technician program is designed to be completed in a 42-week timeframe, which is equivalent to three semesters. This intensive program structure allows students to gain practical experience and theoretical knowledge in a condensed period. The program is primarily lab-based, with approximately 60% of the curriculum focused on hands-on learning.

 

Students have the option to apply for a co-op version of the program, which allows them to gain real-world experience in the industry. This co-op opportunity is available to qualified students two terms prior to their first co-op work term, subject to availability.
