Academic Requirements

To be considered for admission to the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MScOT) program at Western University, prospective students must meet the following requirements:

Have successfully completed a four-year bachelor's degree with high academic standing from a recognized university or postsecondary degree-granting institution.
Applicants in the final year of their bachelor's degree must provide proof of degree completion (i.e., degree conferral) by June 30th, 2025 to maintain their spot in the program.
Applicants whose bachelor's degree was completed at an institution outside of Canada must submit their transcripts for equivalency. Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.
Have a minimum sub-grade point average (GPA) of 3.4 (on the ORPAS 4.0 scale). Meeting the minimum sub-GPA does not guarantee admission. For 2024, the average sub-GPA of the applicants who received a first-round offer was 3.78.
Applicants must have successfully studied on a full-time basis for at least 2 years during their university level studies. For admission purposes, full-time studies are considered to be 4-5 half courses per semester (equivalent to a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester).
We will not consider applicants who are currently registered in another Canadian Occupational Therapy Program.
We will not consider applicants if they have been required to withdraw from a professional rehabilitation sciences program.
Admission decisions made by the School of Occupational Therapy are final and not subject to appeal.

International students may apply through ORPAS following the same timelines as domestic students. However, they also have the option to apply directly to the program via SGPS at any time. It is recommended that students contact LOA Portal's advisors for any clarification and support regarding the application process.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

Proof of English Proficiency is required for admission to Western if English is not your first language. You must take a test to demonstrate your proficiency. For fall 2025 admission, you must write one of the following acceptable tests before March 2025. Please note that scores for tests written before January 1, 2023, will not be accepted.

International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) Academic
- A minimum overall band score of 6.5
- A minimum of 6.0 in each section
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
- A minimum overall score of 83
- A minimum of 20 in each section
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic)
- A minimum overall score of 58
- A minimum of 56 in each section
Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency
- A minimum overall score of 176
- A minimum of 169 in each section
Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL)
- A minimum overall score of 60
- A minimum of 60 in each section
Duolingo English Test
- A minimum of 115 overall
- A minimum of 100 for each subscore
