Program Overview
The Heavy Mechanical Technology program at Vancouver Community College (VCC) is designed for students who enjoy working with their hands and are interested in mechanics, machinery, and the growing heavy-duty equipment industry. This program provides hands-on training and theoretical knowledge to prepare students for work in the repair and maintenance of large industrial vehicles such as trucks, buses, and construction equipment.
Students will develop practical skills in diagnostics, welding, hydraulics, suspension, electrical systems, and engines, while also learning how to use specialized tools and follow workplace safety standards. It’s a great pathway to a rewarding career in trades with high demand across Canada.

This 10-month full-time certificate program blends classroom instruction with practical training in VCC’s modern, well-equipped labs. Students will cover core mechanical systems and procedures essential to working in heavy-duty industries.
