Program overview

The Mechanical Engineering Technology program is an Ontario College Advanced Diploma that spans three years. This program equips students with the ability to apply scientific and engineering principles to tackle mechanical engineering challenges across various industries. Students engage in a blend of classroom instruction and hands-on practical labs, gaining essential skills such as modifying engineering designs, performing tests, and utilizing engineering software. A significant component of the program is the capstone design project in the third year, where students collaborate with industry stakeholders to analyze and execute their projects. Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in a paid co-operative education (co-op) work term, enhancing their real-world experience.

Program structure

The Mechanical Engineering Technology program is structured over a period of three years and includes a combination of theoretical and practical learning experiences. The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of mechanical engineering principles through:

  • Classroom-based courses
  • Extensive practical labs
  • A capstone design project in the third year
  • Optional paid co-operative education (co-op) work term

Students can choose between the co-op and non-co-op versions of the program. The co-op option allows students to gain valuable industry experience, although placement is subject to availability and academic eligibility. The program emphasizes hands-on learning, ensuring that students are well-prepared for careers in mechanical engineering technology.

Featured Experiences

The Mechanical Engineering Technology program offers several unique experiences that enhance the learning journey:

  • Capstone Design Project: In the third year, students work on a significant project that involves collaboration with industry stakeholders.
  • Co-operative Education (Co-op): Students have the option to participate in a paid co-op work term, providing real-world experience and networking opportunities.
  • Hands-on Labs: Extensive practical labs allow students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios.
  • Applied Research Projects: Students engage in projects that tackle real-world challenges, enhancing their problem-solving skills.
  • Industry Collaboration: Opportunities to work with external stakeholders during projects, fostering industry connections.
