Academic Requirements

To be eligible for the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program at UPEI, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Successfully completed Grade 12 Academic or equivalent courses in English, Math, Chemistry, and Biology.
Successfully completed 60 semester hours of university-level credit.
Of the 60 semester hours of credit, 27 semester hours must come from the following courses, with a minimum average of 75% in these 9 courses and no individual course grade below 60%:
- Human Anatomy (3 semester hours) – lab required
- Human Physiology (3 semester hours) – lab required
- Microbiology (3 semester hours) – lab required
- Introductory Psychology (6 semester hours)
- Developmental Psychology (3 semester hours)
- Statistics (3 semester hours)
- Introductory Nutrition (3 semester hours)
- One (1) English course (3 semester hours)
All noted courses must be successfully completed at an undergraduate degree level at a recognized post-secondary institution and within the past 10 years.

Additionally, all applicants are required to complete the CASPer Test, which is worth 30% of the overall admission score. This test is a standardized, multi-part online assessment that measures various competencies and attributes important for success in the program.

Language Requirements

The language of instruction at the University of Prince Edward Island is English. All academically admissible applicants are required to demonstrate proficiency in the English language prior to undertaking studies. Proficiency may be demonstrated by:

IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 7 with 7 in writing and speaking; 6.5 in reading and listening
TOEFL paper-based test: 600 with minimum TWE of 6
TOEFL internet-based test: 5, no score below 4.5
CAEL (including CAEL Online): 70
Pearson Test of English: 66
Cambridge B2 First, C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency: Overall score of 185 with 185 in writing and speaking; 176 in reading and listening
GTEC CBT: 1250 and above
Duolingo: Overall score: 120 with minimum subscores of 115 in all components
Oxford ELLT: Overall 7 with 8 in Writing and Speaking, 7 in Reading and Listening
English 621: 70%

Applicants with scores below the minimum may be admitted conditionally, but this option is not available for Nursing programs.
